Proposal P7 · Guided Picking. The team named pick-to-light hardware as the fix for wrong picks and put-aways. The same discipline can come from the scanners already in hand: scan the bin's location barcode, then the item — a line cannot confirm from the wrong location. This is the one proposal here with no AI in it, and we say so.

LOCATION SCAN: REQUIREDeHub RF Scanner

Simulate the picker's scans

Accepted — and that is the problem. Nothing proved the picker stood at A-14-3. In today's flow a wrong-bin pick or put-away enters stock silently, and is discovered later as missing inventory, a wrong item shipped, or a count mismatch.
Blocked at the bin, not discovered next week. The wrong location never reaches the item scan — the error is corrected by walking one bin over, while the picker is still standing there.

Why this can stand in for pick-to-light

software control · no AI

Pick-to-light guides; the location scan proves. Lights show the picker where to go — but nothing confirms they picked from the lit bin. Requiring the bin's barcode before the item's gives the same guidance and a proof, using the scanners and barcodes the warehouse already owns.

No AI in this one

A scan-sequence rule in the RF flow the pickers already use. We recommend it because it fits the problem — not because it is clever.

What it costs

One extra scan per line — a few seconds. Whether the error saved pays for the seconds spent is measured in a small pilot, zone by zone, before any rollout.

What has to be true first

checked before anything is built

Every pick and put-away location carries a scannable, readable barcode — condition is checked zone by zone. Operations accepts the extra seconds where it matters most. And the RF flow can enforce the sequence — confirmed with the system team.

Where it extends: the same rule at put-away stops wrong-location stock at its source — which is where many "missing inventory" investigations begin. Fewer silent errors also means fewer mysteries for the daily briefing (P6) and the journey tracer (P1) to chase.
